The Franco-German Institute of Higher Education in Applied Sciences (DFHI) is a partnership between the Saarland University of Applied Sciences (htw saar) and the University of Lorraine in Metz (UL). With ca. 450 students and over 3,000 graduates, it represents the largest Franco-German cooperation in higher education.

At the DFHI at least three languages are spoken: German, French, and English. Chinese is an additional option. The DFHI stands for openness to the world, and this is the common thread running through everything from its original concept, to its organizational structure, to the way its study programs unfold for students.

Altogether, the DFHI offers 12 Franco-German bachelor or master study programs in the areas of Management as well as Engineering & Informatics. What is distinctive about this institute is its carefully coordinated, reliable sequencing of study phases. It’s an international environment into which students can easily integrate and establish contacts with other students from the whole world, making the start of their Franco-German studies a smooth one.

The unique character of the Franco-German Institute is evident in:

•     study phases alternating between the locations of  Metz, France, and Saarbrücken, Germany
•     full integration of German and French students in shared courses throughout the entire program
•     language instruction in the partner language and in English, as well as intercultural education
•     multi-lingual courses in technical/scientific subjects
•     cross-sectional orientation through interdepartmental, interdisciplinary study projects
•     practical phase in a country speaking the partner language
•     double degree
